Luvo AI vs Backyard AI
Every figure checked 30 August 2026
The short version
Our verdict: it dependsBackyard AI is $12 a month for Standard and $35 for Pro, and the difference between them is context: 16,384 tokens against 100,000. They also name the models — Mistral-Nemo Instruct 12B, Llama 3 Stheno V3.3 8B, and others — which nobody else in this comparison set does.
That single practice makes them the most checkable product here. If you know what a 12B instruct model can and cannot do, you know exactly what you are buying, and you can run the same weights yourself locally to find out.
It is also a different product from ours. Backyard is a chat and roleplay engine; there is no photograph of a consistent woman at the end of it. Our chat runs on a small open model too, for the same economic reason, and we charge for the pictures instead.
What a month costs, per unit
| Plan | Per month | Allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Backyard Standardmax context, tokens | $12.00 | 16,384 |
| Backyard Promax context, tokens | $35.00 | 100,000 |
| Luvo Freeunlimited chat | $0.00 | unlimited |
| Luvo Plus, annualunlimited chat, 160 photographs | $7.99 | unlimited |
There is no price-per-unit column on this page, and that is deliberate: Backyard AI publishes an allowance and never publishes what it buys. Dividing money by an allowance whose exchange rate is unstated produces a confident number about nothing.
- The allowance column here is context length, not a monthly quota, and it is not comparable to anything else in this set. It is in the table because it is the actual difference between their two tiers.
- Neither product meters messages, so there is no per-message column.
- They also list a yearly term on the same page; we read the monthly rates.
What free gets you
Backyard has a free tier alongside the two paid ones, and their comparison table lists it. What it grants in context and model access we did not read closely enough to state.
Naming the model is the honest thing to do
Every product in this category runs somebody else's weights, ours included. Almost none of them will say whose. The marketing word is "advanced AI models", and it is doing the work of hiding a 7B model behind the same phrase as a 70B one.
Backyard prints the list. That lets a reader who knows the models price the product accurately, and it lets everybody else search the names. It is the same category of disclosure as printing your billing descriptor, and it costs about as little.
Our chat runs on a small open instruct model, and the reason is in our pricing file: a month of heavy conversation costs about three cents that way, which is what makes it possible to give chat away on the free tier. A frontier model per message would make unlimited chat a promise we could not keep.
A hundred thousand tokens of context
Pro's 100,000-token context is a genuinely large number and it is the feature people pay for. It means a long roleplay can keep its own history in front of the model rather than relying on a summary.
Our approach is the cheaper one and it is worse at exactly this: a running memory distilled into a compact record, rather than the whole conversation held open. It costs far less per message and it forgets things a 100K context would not.
If long-session continuity is the thing you care about most, that is a real reason to pick them and it has nothing to do with price. We would rather write that down than have somebody discover it in week three.
Where Backyard AI is better
They name their models. We should, and on the marketing pages we do not.
100,000 tokens of context on Pro, against a compact running memory on our side.
Group chats with up to four characters at once. We do not have those; we do take calls now, at a credit a minute on any paid plan.
A native iOS app. We are a website.
What we could not check
Every one of these products puts its checkout behind a signup. Where a number was not readable without an account, it is listed here rather than taken from a review site that earns a commission on the answer.
- The free tier's exact limits.
- The yearly prices for both tiers.
- Whether image generation exists in the product at all.
Same girl, anywhere
Four shoots of Vera — different clothes, different city, different weather. Nothing re-rolled: every one is an edit of the first.
Those four cost four credits. Run the same test on Backyard AI — both products have a free tier — and put the faces side by side. If ours does not hold up, none of the arithmetic above matters and you should ignore this page.
Other comparisons
- Luvo AI vs Character.AI$9.99 a month to wait less. No adult content, no photographs — a different product, not a cheaper one.
- Luvo AI vs CrushOn AISix tiers of message credits, and a free tier that deletes your chat after seven idle days.
- Luvo AI vs PepHop AI$4.99 for 2,000 messages. Three tiers, one unit, no conversion table — the clearest page in the set.
